OUR MISSION

Arazzo Music Festival is an annual music festival based in Connecticut. Our desire is to build community through free chamber music programs and educational opportunities for local audiences and music students.

WHAT DOES ARAZZO MEAN?

The word arazzo means “tapestry” in Italian, indicative of our fundamental mission to create and weave connections between performers, audience members, local businesses, organizations, and the community. Besides curating dynamic and innovative chamber music performances, Arazzo will engage local students through musical coaching and mentorship by its world-class performing artists in local schools and community spaces.

— Goals of the Arazzo Music Festival —

Create opportunities for Classical musicians —

Without Arazzo’s musicians, there is no Arazzo Music Festival. The success of the festival is contingent on having high-caliber, international performing artists on its roster, so as to best serve the needs of the community by giving access to the highest quality musical performances and educational offerings. While Arazzo aims to forge connections between audience members and musicians, it also hopes to bring musicians from many backgrounds together, in order to foster the highest level of creative music-making.

Make concerts free for the general public —

While there is a strong precedent for festivals to monetize their performance and educational opportunities, we believe that money should not be a barrier for anyone in the community to experience our diverse programming. We also believe that there is potential for stronger and more genuine connections to be formed with community members without a fiscal barrier. With this in mind, it is a primary goal for Arazzo to operate as a donation-based organization.

Expand and diversify our audience base —

Classical music is an often misunderstood art form. However, the beauty of performing classical music in the 21st century is that each new concert is an opportunity to present music that is hundreds of years old for a diverse audience—music that, for decades, was confined to the private drawing rooms of a small, very wealthy section of the population. In addition to presenting traditional Classical music, we also intend to promote the writing of new musical compositions through programming choices and commissioning grants. Arazzo will bring all of these works, new and old, to people of all ages and identities in many different spaces throughout Connecticut in specially curated programs.
