Devin Moore

VIOLIST

Devin Moore (age 27), a Pittsburgh native, is a violist, visual artist, and creative director praised for his “richly expressive tone” and “keen musical intelligence.” Active on stage and in interdisciplinary projects, he represents a generation of artists expanding the scope of chamber music.

Moore began violin at nine, performing in the Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestra, Pittsburgh Youth Symphony, and Youth Chamber Connection. These formative experiences shaped an artistic philosophy centered on communication, curiosity, and collective purpose.

He continued at The Juilliard School as a Kovner Fellow, studying with Samuel Rhodes and Misha Amory and serving as principal violist in the Juilliard Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and AXIOM. He received the Joseph W. Polisi Prize, emerging with a collaborative ethos: “The goal is not to play well, but to listen enough that something larger than the individual can take shape.”

That ethos finds its fullest expression in the Isidore String Quartet, which Moore co-founded at The Juilliard School. The ensemble won First Prize at the 14th Banff International String Quartet Competition (2022) and received a 2023 Avery Fisher Career Grant, establishing it as one of the leading young quartets of its generation. Mentored by members of the Juilliard String Quartet, the group has since built an active international touring career, performing across major venues and festivals in North America and Europe and appearing regularly on prominent chamber music series.

Moore has appeared with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra (co-principal violist), New York Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, The Knights, and Jupiter Chamber Players, and performed as soloist with the Pittsburgh Symphony and the Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh. Festival appearances include Ravinia, Aspen, Kneisel Hall, Sarasota, and Music in the Vineyards. Collaborators include James Ehnes, Jeremy Denk, David Chan, Sarah Chang, Anthony McGill, and members of the Pacifica, Miró, Brentano, and Juilliard Quartets. Recordings include the Isidore String Quartet debut album Adorations and the New York Philharmonic’s A Gathering of Friends, film scores White Noise, Bros, Crater, and solo features in Till and Devil Wears Prada 2.

As Co-Founder and Creative Director of the Greenroom Ensemble, Moore aims to amplify underrepresented voices. He co-directed, filmed, and edited the documentary The Space We Hold. He says, “Art creates space for stories, dialogue, connection—and listening that can change understanding.”
